GPS Hazard-Warning System
Mountain-terrain driver assistance
A complete GPS-based hazard-warning system for mountain roads — a dual-MCU device with a dual audio-amplifier subsystem that tracks the vehicle's position, detects upcoming terrain hazards and plays pre-recorded voice warnings to the driver.

help The problem
Mountain roads are full of location-specific hazards — blind curves, steep drops, landslide-prone stretches — that a driver unfamiliar with the terrain cannot anticipate. The product had to always know where the vehicle is, know what is coming up on the road ahead, and speak a warning in time for the driver to react.
build What we built
- A dual-MCU architecture: an STM32 handling real-time control and peripherals, an ESP32 for connectivity — partitioning deterministic control from the wireless and compute workload.
- GPS positioning with hazard detection — continuously tracking location and matching it against known hazard points along the route, so a warning fires before the hazard, not at it.
- A dual audio-amplifier subsystem at 20 W and 5 W driving the voice warnings at cabin level, with a microphone for the driver, and pre-recorded warning clips stored on device.
- A rich peripheral set — display, NAND and SD-card storage for audio, hazard data and logs, and RS485 for wired integration.
- A companion Flutter app that downloads audio content from the server onto the device so clips can be provisioned in the field, and handles OTA firmware updates.
check_circle The result
- done A complete, working driver-assistance safety device from schematic through firmware, for a genuinely useful purpose.
- done Complete embedded-product engineering — dual-MCU architecture, a full audio subsystem, GPS hazard logic and a companion app with OTA — delivered solo.
